Re-Living the Future

I was not looking forward to our church’s 250th anniversary. I like to think of myself as a visionary leader looking toward the future, and the thought of a year of old-time fashion shows, staged historical services, and remembering what has been instead of anticipating what is to come did not stir my soul.
I could not have been more wrong. This past year, and especially when the celebration was in full force, has been one of my most exciting and eye-opening seasons of ministry. The Spirit has opened me up to surprising connections with our past that are tied to our vision for the future. What I dreaded, I now celebrate with joy. What was old is new: the past is the present, and the God who has been our help in ages past is our hope for years to come...
