Reaching Out, Changing Within
by Elmer Van Drunen
I was content and satisfied with the status quo of my church life until the early 1990s, when drastic changes began to happen at our church and in relationships that my wife and I held dear. Let me share a portion of my church history.
Our family's experience with Faith Church began on a Sunday in September 1963, when a group of people met for worship in a school in South Holland, Illinois, for the purpose of starting a new church. We were members of First Reformed Church in South Holland at the time. I was surprised to be elected to the steering committee, since I didn't think God would use a very average person with a high school education in such a way. Faith Reformed Church was organized in 1964 and a consistory was formed; I was elected to serve on it. I have been in leadership at Faith Church ever since.
